Jason Hospedales

Jason Hospedales is a multidisciplinary artist with over twenty-five years of practice, recognized as a strong voice in Caribbean contemporary art. Jason's work can be described as semi-abstract Caribbean expressionism. His work integrates visual art, music, and cultural narratives, honoring Trinbagonian heritage while exploring identity, spirituality, and resilience.

He graduated with distinction from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, and was shaped by influential mentors including Calstud Seales, Darumboud Westmas, LeRoy Clark, Makemba Kunle, and Corensa Osuna.

Working primarily with clay, acrylic, and oil paint, Hospedales also engages mixed media, sculpture, and performance art. His practice extends into one holistic voice, reflecting a belief in art as a unified expression.

He has presented four solo exhibitions: The Ancestors Who Sit At God's Feet (2017) at The Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago; A Tribute To Those of Sacred Flight (2019) at The Loft Gallery; A Genetic Recall (2021) at Arnim's Art Galleria; and Gender (2023) at Arnim's Art Galleria. Jason has also participated in numerous group shows over the years.

In 2023, he was awarded first place in Royal Caribbean's Artist Discovery Competition. This led to the creation of a large-scale mural aboard the Icon of the Seas, completed with two collaborators in thirteen days.

As an educator and cultural practitioner, Hospedales documents life and memory in Trinidad and Tobago while inspiring future generations. His work centers on ancestral continuity, with a deep reverence for the African experience, particularly the strength and divinity of the sacred feminine. His practice is both a celebration and a spiritual offering, rooted in healing, identity, and cultural affirmation.
