Kerry Collins

Born in 1962, Kerry Collins was first introduced to the world of art through an intense love of comic books, constantly drawing characters such as Spider-Man, Daredevil, X-Men and the Hulk. That steady practice sharpened his skill, and in December 1974 his father bought him his first oil painting set.

In 1981 he completed a forty-hour art course at the U.W.I. Extra-Mural studies, where he learnt the fundamentals. He hosted his first solo exhibition at Framed Art Gallery in Chaguaramas in September 2004, and went on to complete a full oil painting course, The Insider's Guide to the Secrets of Oil Painting by Ethan Semmel (2005), followed by a sixty-unit online course from beginner to advanced level with Barry John Raybould, M.A., of The Virtual Art Academy (2006).

Since that first solo show, Collins has exhibited widely across Trinidad and Tobago, including at Horizons Art Gallery, Fine Art Gallery, On Location Art Gallery, Art Creators, Southern Art Gallery, Framed Art Gallery and the Art Society.

All of his paintings follow the impressionist style and are drawn entirely from local life, ranging from history paintings to landscapes, seascapes, figures, old houses, portraits and still life, all in oils. Modern influences on his work include David Leffel, Jeremy Lipking, Mark Carder and Jim McVicker.
